My friend has a carburetor 1980 with an issue we could not figure out. The horn will not stop going if you connect a relay into the pigtail. We tried removing the horn button and it kept going so the button itself doesn't seem to be the culprit. We double checked the wires against the wiring diagram and they all match for color and location(s).
The horns themselves (electric) seem to have the wiring correct also. This is such a simple circuit it was driving me crazy today.
Anyone have this happen?
Thanks

Re: crazy horn issue
yes if you go behind the glovebox and cut the purple wire
it will stop
then cut the purple wire at the steering colum"just before the colum plug" and run a jumper between them
it will work fine
he has a short somewhere in between and its grounding out
hope this helps.joe

Re: crazy horn issue
If you remove the steering will there are 2 contacts from the steering column, one is to take the ground signal to the sttering wheel, the other is the signal to the horn button. I bet one of them is bent and contacting ground.

Csabas sounds like one to check first so a question about those 2 contacts. Should only one of them be contacting the brass ring behind the steering wheel? When you say one may be bent and contacting ground what is it to avoid? The brass ring or anything elae metal?

Re: crazy horn issue
Only one is supposed to rouch the brass ring. So either both are touching it, or the one that is supposed to tough it is bent and is touching a ground path instead.georgeramos wrote:Csabas sounds like one to check first so a question about those 2 contacts. Re: crazy horn issue
I had exactly the same issue, and the cause was just as Csaba described it. Just pull the steering wheel off and have a look. It's a ten second fix if that is the problem.

He fiddled around with the 2 contacts and it worked. Horn is operational. Thank you for the replies.

Let us know if it starts to beep now when turning corners. Those prongs behind the steering wheel are fiddly things. Every Fiat I have ever owned has had a fiddly horn before fixing.

It did start sounding on a left turn recently. I was a few cars ahead of him and i heard what sounded like one angry driver. Thought i was gonna see some road rage.
