Cam Box Ground Wiring?

Post by RRoller123 »

Hi All:

I am reassembling my top end and I have this ground wire that was present on the car and runs from one of the cam plate retaining screws at the back of the Exhaust Cam Box to the firewall on Passenger's side.

I am not sure, but I strongly suspect that this is neither original nor from the factory?

The cam boxes both ohm out to the block and the firewall/chassis, so it seems redundant. Any idea why this would be there? Has anyone else seen this? Maybe it was a solution to ground isolation of the engine/transmission by a PO? I have a heavy ground from the block to the chassis so I am tempted to eliminate it.

Thanks!

Pete

Many owners add an additional ground from the engine to the chassis in order to be one step above the electrical gremlins that plague these cars. A braided wire has been added to mine as well at some point in time. It might seem redundant but it can't hurt.

Hmm, thanks, it is definitely going back on. May have provided a local ground for the distributor so the tach or module would be accurate or something along those lines. :?: One can regularly find grounds that measure a portion of an ohm or more across various physical distances between grounds.

Well three is a quorum I guess. Must serve some local ground purpose.

Thanks!

Same here. You can't have too many grounds...
