Mystery wires in trunk.

Post by njspider »

I have 2 wires in the left side of the trunk that terminate near the gas filler. One is blue/red, the other is green/white. Both have factory connectors but are not plugged into anything nor can I find anywhere they look like they would go. All my lights work. Neither wire is hot with the key on or off. I can't find them on my wiring diagram. Any ideas? thanks

Pre wiring for a power antenna? If so, there should be corresponding wires behind the dash. They'd be connected to wires coming out of your radio that would activate when you turn the radio on.

One could be for the trunk light, which always seems to be missing.

Power antenna wires would be in that area. Their colors are: Dark blue/red and Light blue/white, They originate near the center console where the switches would be mounted. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a good theory. The manual antenna in the car is definitely not factory. Maybe it replaced a power unit that crapped out. Thanks for the input.

These cars did not have a factory installed radio (dealers installed them) but they were pre-wired for a power antenna.

Is this why antenna placement doesn't have a standard position?

I've seen some very near the gas lid and some much closer to the convertible top.

I had one where the antenna was on the right front fender.
