Funny Idle Behavior

Post by wubie317 »

It's getting warm out here in CA, and suddenly my idle speed has gone haywire. When the engine is warm enough to kick on the fan, I'm now finding the idle at 2500 even 3000 when stopped at a light. I have to rev it really hard to get it to kick back down. Then, when I press the gas again, it's back up there.

Is it a choke thing? Best guesses appreciated!

If revving it does kick it back down, I'd say it's a choke thing. Start with looking at the linkage, and butterflies, maybe spray some lube. Sticky, stuck choke, I'd surmise.

Throttle plate could be sticking too. Inspection / Cleaning it might help?
