electrical connectors up from transmission

Post by 1983Pinin »

Hello,
I am redoing my 83 spider inner shift boot , center console and transmission tunnel insulation to stop cooking my new car stereo, and I noticed that there are two connectors coming up from the transmission into the cabin. Each connector is male with two lugs in the connector. One was connected and one is not. I am guessing that one has something to do with reverse(?)--any thoughts on the unconnected one? I haven't found a mating connector in the cabin without a mate (yet).
Thanks

Yes, one is the reverse lamp switch. The other is an emissions-related switch, which prevents the throttle from closing completely in certain gears.

Thanks for the information baltobernie. Now I just need to find
1-- a replacement connector for that emissions switch--I am inclined to have the emmisions stuff all working
2--where it connects up on the cabin side , if that's where it connects. Would it possibly connect to something on the street side of the transmission tunnel?
Thanks again

I have no personal knowledge of the 1983 except that it is a fuel injected car. I thought all the fuel injected cars manual transmissions had only a back up switch located on the very back of the transmission.

Sorry, I have an earlier car and limited knowledge of the newer models. Perhaps someone else can answer your question.

Keep in mind that many of our cars have bits from model years earlier and later than the VIN tag indicates. It's possible you don't need the function of that switch; it may have been used only on carbureted engines. Wait for an answer from an expert.
