Serra L1 cam compatable with FI?

Post by MikeHynes »

I would like to replace the stock smog cams in my '80 FI Spider 2000 with something that offers a bit more power. I would like to keep the FI, and keep it streetable. Does anyone have any experience with the Serra L1 cam in an FI engine? Would this be a good cam for an FI engine with no other mods?

No clue on the Sierra L1 cams, but I put Mark's 274(?) cams in my 2 liter FI and have been very happy. I am working on maxing the cams via cam timing, but just dropping in with stock cam wheels gave good results.

I have Mark's 274 cams in my 80 FI as well. I noticed a positive difference( a bit really) but when I put adjustable cam wheels on and had it degree'd in properly it really made a difference. I'd recommend them(274's) as long as the engine is degree'd in .

I have the 274 too, it really kicks in about 3000 and I get a sweet spot, where it is very smooth, at about 3600 (~65mph), but it will pull right up to redline no problem. Mine not as smooth down below, but fully acceptable.

Thanks all for the input. I believe the L1 has 268' of duration, and very mild lift. If the 274 works well then I'm confident that the L1 will too. At least the L1 should be better than stock. It's the effect of the longer duration that I am most concerned about because of the AFM. I don't think it likes cams with lots of duration.
