What is this?

On my 1982 Spider 2000 I see this condensor type object attached to the coil holder. It's not currently hooked up to the coil or anything else. Is it supposed to be hooked up? What is it? What does it do. Car seems to run fine without it. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Mine's hooked to my coil. Unsure if it's needed though.

condensor, should be hooked to the + side of the coil

Thanks. Wonder why it is unhooked? If the condensor is bad, what will the symtoms be?

if the condensor is bad, it will ground the ignition power and cause no spark, and of course, no run
