'77 Spider - No power to fuel pump

Post by InfinityAero »

Hey Guys,

I've got my spider back on the ground, but it won't start now. Figured out I'm not getting any power to the fuel pump; it'll run when hooked up to a tender but doesn't pump any fuel while cranking the motor. Any ideas? Ran 4 months ago when I put it on blocks for the suspension rebuild...

Bad ground...?

I rubbed the ground with a wire brush-- looked pretty good. Suppose a new bolt might be in order...

Apparently there's an inline fuse for the fuel pump-- took me about an hour of reading through the references in the Haynes manual to figure that out :/

I'm guessing that's blown somehow-- supposedly it's an 8A fuse. I'm guessing it's the inline fuse near the ignition cylinder that has a red wire coming out of both ends... seems to be the only red wire at play.

Fuse looked fine. Thinking of switching to using one of the pump mounting bolts as a ground... maybe the section of unibody I'm hooked up to is too rusted to act as a sufficient ground...

forgive my lack of specifics .... something in the airbox moves and activates power to the pump .... perhaps something is stuck and not sending power from that location .... again sorry for not knowing exactly where that moving part is but have read problems before about the fuel pump and power ..that may be a place to look also.... If you unhook the air tube and reach into the AFM box and move the flap while the key is in the "on" position, the fuel pump should turn on. The relay will click and you should be able to hear the pump running. Try this and then let's take it from there.

This seems like an obvious point, but the 77 came with a mechanical fuel pump, if their is anything but that I would follow the leads on the electric pump and go from there.
