Should Hazard switch glow at night ???

Hi
I'm new to Fiats , a recent convert from old British cars . My Hazard warning switch glows a comforting red at night when the lights are on . This would signal a complex , probably untraceable electrical fault in a Joe Prince of Darkness Lucas world . Is the Fiat switch meant to glow or is this a real Fiat electrical problem ??

That's so you can find it in a hurry to switch it on when the car suddenly dies on the freeway or some other catastrophe.

cigarette lighter ring should also be lit, as well as the small indicators down on the console near the handbrake.
