Door jamb switch
My courtesy light works by the switch on it but does not go on when the door is opened. Can someone tell me where the switch is on the door? I see nothing.

Re: Door jamb switch
It's a small round, white plastic, button that makes contact with a conical rubber piece attached to the door.
The rubber piece gets deformed and is no longer able to push the button in when the door is closed.

Re: Door jamb switch
That would cause the light to stay on. When the door is opened the button "pops" out and grounds the light circuit causing the light to go on, when the door closes the button is pushed in and the circuit is opened and the light goes out. You may need a new door switch or simply cleaning any rust where the switch is. You can check the wiring by pulling the wire off the switch and grounding it; if the wiring is good the light will go on.joelittel wrote:It's a small round, white plastic, button that makes contact with a conical rubber piece attached to the door.

Ok, I see it now. Or I see where mine used to be . Switch is missing on both sides but I see the rubber bumper mentioned. Thanks, folks! I'll see if I have wiring inside the door then look for a couple switches (Only $3.50 a piece at A/R!).

The courtesy light door switch is mounted in the door jam between where the door hinges mount to the body of the car. The switch is not mounted in the door. The wires in the door are for electric windows. Fiat installed those wires in all the cars even ones with hand operated crank windows.

Re: Door jamb switch
Right, thanks. The bumper is on the door, the switch on the car by the hinges.
