Lube Fittings

Post by DMECMAnderson »

I was changing the transmission oil (yep got the non-EP stuff from IAP), noticed I have a couple of grease fittings, but I can't figure out what type of grease to use from the two manuals I have (IAP Workshop Manual and Clymer Shop Manual).

One of the fittings is on the drive shaft immediately behind the Flexible Coupling, the IAP workshop manual (page 24-3/4) identifies it as "Sliding sleeve lubrication fitting". The other fittings I noticed today are on a the bottom of a cap at near the wheel side of the lower steering arm under the boot that holds the steering knuckle.

My question is: What type of lube do you use for these? Same as bearing grease (NGLI No. 3)? How often should these points be lubricated?

Are there other lube points that need attention?

Is there any lubrication of the driveshaft center pillow block bearing?

chassis grease goes in the zerk fittings, it's different than wheel bearing grease, the ctr bearing is sealed. Those ball joints should be lubed at every oil change
