Fuel Pump question

Post by RDSPYDR »

If I am going to drain the fuel tank, and I am going to try and be lazy about it. Can I hook a wire from the battery to the fuel pump and have the fuel pump pump the tank clean ? Or is there another easy way to do it ?

Thanks

I assume you've rejected the idea of drilling a hole in the bottom? That's an easy way.
OK, not so easy to fix, and a spark could be a problem, but hey, it is easy to drain the tank that way. :D

There are small, inexpensive, hand-held pumps made for pumping gas. I bought one from Northern several years ago to drain the gas out of my Corvair. I don't think you want all the gunk in the bottom of the tank going through your fuel pump.

the pickup on the fuel sender draws from the bottom of the tank all of the time. Pumping with the electric pump just takes quite awhile
