2 different Vin numbers on Fiat spider 1982 Pininfarina

Hi,

I am trying to register my newly imported US Fiat spider pininfarina 1982 and DVLA said that the VIN number on the chassis is different from the two others - on the door and windscreen. They are both 17 digit numbers starting ZFA.


Any ideas please?

The chassis vin number under the hood stamped on the left near the wiper cowl is the true vin of the car, the others are just stamped plates that are riveted on. Are all 3 different, or just the windshield and door different from the chassis? Is this potentially a written off car that someone attempted to swap the vin?

The windscreen and door plate are the same VIN. This is recognised in a VIN search. The chassis VIN is not recognised. The car was part of a collection, one owner from new with full history. It hasn't been tampered with for sure.

The 2 Vins are:

ZFAAS00B3C5001786 on the title and door plate. The Vin search on this is correct

ZFA124CS005001786 on the chassis. Vin search shows nothing

The 124CS0 vin is the classic serial number system they used before standardized vins were required (late MY1981). I guess Fiat never changed their body stamping dies haha. Since the serial portion is the same it is obviously the same car. The correct one to go by for licensing would be the one in the windshield.
