Fiat 1100 Wagon
I was lucky enough to come across this beautiful 1967 wagon the other day and even though I JUST bought a 124 wagon a couple of weeks ago the condition/price was a no brainer.
Today we rolled to off the trailer and into our driveway. We washed and waxed it, did the clay bar on one fender top to see how much difference it makes (a lot) but will defer that job until another day. I wire wheeled some surface rust on the underbody and POR 15'd it.
I started draining the gas and noticed it was quite clear and smelled normal so I put a battery in it and it fired up! The carb (or something related) is leaking fuel so I shut it down quickly but it's great to see how easily it started after approximately 4 years according to the seller.
This was an Arizona car so there really is no bad rust, just some surface stuff here and there, in the engine bay the brake fluid leaked at one point and bubbled the heck out of the paint under the reservoir so there is some surface rust there. The overflow tank also must have leaked as there is some rust on the surface below it as well. I wire wheeled what i could and POR 15'd it as well.
I need to buy a manual, do the brakes, rebuild the carb, drain the gas and clean the lines, change all fluids, belts and hoses, new plugs and wires, check the suspension bushings and re-do as needed and hopefully not much else!

Beautiful! If you ever have to drive carpool for some Italian kids, you'll be in great shape.

Re: Fiat 1100 Wagon
wow...that looks like quite the time capsule. Guess I did not realize how cool those could be. There used to be an 1100 sedan in someone's side yard around here...appeared to be a driver, actually if I recall. Also, for a long time last year, there was a guy w/ a rat rod 1100 wagon for sale ($3k if I recall?) in Asheville NC.
btw, what carburetor does this have? oddly enough, I may have a few small parts for an 1100. (I should not say that, because when I do & I sell or give away the spares, the actions cumulatively cause an interesting example of the subject vehicle to appear in my driveway....a 128 wagon & soon a 124 sedan being recent cases in point)

Wonderful.
I will look for proper wheels and hubcaps for you and make them a gift, if you like. I think you like.

Re: Fiat 1100 Wagon
Hi Mike and thank you so much for the generous offer but I have the original wheels. The tires were completely smashed flat so we had to put my friends spare wheels on to roll it out of the locker.
Chris, I may actually take you up on the carb parts thing. While draining I noticed the fuel looked and yelled stable so I put a battery in it and it started up! The carb or something near/related is leaking fuel so i shut it down quickly. I will be pulling the carb soon and will report back.
Thanks all, I am greatly looking forward to the first drive!

Awesome car! Hey, George, you in Oregon? Portland? I live in Hood River and just imported a 1974 Fiat 124 sedan from Italy.

Hi Chris, i contacted you on facebook recently. Next weds is the FIRST beaches car show at PIR. If youre available to come to Portland and join us it would be great to meet you and see your sedan
I got the 1100 carb (rebuilt with "minor" kit) and dizzy (rebuilt with a pertronix unit) back in, new oil in the motor, trans and rear end and got it fired up. Motor sounds good! Also put Spider front brakes on there, everything fit! I have a new water pump, waiting for 1 more hose and a thermostat to rebuild the cooling system. The fuel and temp gauges dont work, i havent looked at the fuses yet...
Need to add brake fluid and bleed the system. Getting close to the first drive!

Re: Fiat 1100 Wagon
Update: I found a tune up kit for the 32 DCOF 4 carb and tuned it up but could not get it to stop leaking (20-30 minutes AFTER shut down I see puddles in the barrels.) I bought a BRAND NEW 32 DCOF 2 and installed it and the same thing is happening so that is frustrating. I bought and tried swapping the guibo but that part did not work in this car so THAT was frustrating. I can't get the gauges (temp and fuel) to work so it might be the sending units, I need to double check the wiring before buying new ones...

Re: Fiat 1100 Wagon
Here she is shod in her own wheels with brand new (super cheap) tires...
Got her on the road and so far she runs like a champ. Now I need to order and replace a bunch of the weatherstrip stuff as it is thankfully raining in Portland...
Will get a video of her running and driving soon.

Re: Fiat 1100 Wagon
Beautiful car! I would leave her just the way she is. Really sweet!
I always loved the wagons, which were very common in the late 60's/early 70's. I had a great example a few years ago, but sold it to make room in the stable. Wish I had it now!
That said, toplessexpat is getting one together here in Houston. In paint right now. We'll post when done.

Re: Fiat 1100 Wagon
Been driving the wagon here and there and it starts and runs like a champ. The motor is like a sewing machine and is so quiet i constantly think it stalled when im at a light. Little things are popping up here and there that need attention but all pretty simple. This thing is so fun to drive! I cant wait to see toplessexpats car on here!
