Fuel inline check valve

Post by dreavis »

(77' 1800) My check valve is leaking and need to replace it. I see a bunch online (non-OEM) and was wondering if anyone can recommend one they've used. Also, is there anything that must be considered when replacing this valve.
Thanks!

i also have a 77 and had the original check valve leak. I assume you are talking about the one on the return line. it is two pieces pressed together and leaked where they came together.

Midwest Bayless has them

i also put a generic one on the supply line near the tank

Frankly i can't even tell if they work, after a couple days the fuel still drains back to the tank.

if you are messing with fuel check valves it is a good time to add fuel filters , i have pre and post fuel pump

Thanks. I saw those no Midwest, but the one for my year ws out of stock (i'll check again). Is there something special about this particular valve or would a different check valve work?

i dont think there is anything special, i think the break pressure was like 0.5 psi.

It has been recommended to me by a reliable source that I simply remove the check valve altogether. I am fine with following this advice, but I have also seen new check valves online for around $8-20. I assume one of these would do the job if it is the correct size (it fits the fuel lines). Has anyone replaced the old one with a modern one, or has anyone who has removed the check valve altogether noticed any difference from not having one? Just curious.

Thanks!

Quick Update. I purchased a new part through Midwest Bayless and installed it. Leaks and the car runs great. It also seems to start after a crank or two after sit for while. It used to take longer to start and run. Part with shipping about $25
