new member (and Fiat owner) in RI

Post by Sanderbing »

Hello - posting my first to the forum. Had a 74' spider about 20 years ago, but recently got a 77 and am looking brush up on the tips and tricks. Recently purchased someone's "summer home" car - a 1977 spider 124 with 43,000 miles. Stored inside (even the clock lense is clear) but since the top was probably left down for 40 years, it needed a new top - and tires. Those and a new alternator and it seems fine. But not knowing how long it has been since the timing belt was done, i want to get that replaced right away. So if there is anyone who knows a good Fiat mechanic in southern RI or eastern CT please let me know.

PS. The seats leather is split but i have found some replacement seats i really like the looks of - and the price is about the same as new upholstry. Anyone have experience with Cipher Auto® - CPA1001 seats?

I'm in Warwick. When I got my '78 I did the timing belt and water pump myself. Wasn't that difficult but I had read and re-read the manuals and info from other sites before I started. Not familiar with shops in southern RI but Danny O'Donnell is one of the Fiat gurus in New England. There is a shop in Cranston that does a lot of work on all kinds of older cars - Conti's service on Warwick Ave. I've never used them but have heard good things.....
