I am looking for a Mechanic in the Portland area to work on my 81 spider. Not having very good luck.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're looking for someone to fix your brakes or replace your alternator, I can't help you. But Ray Mortenson (Performance Apex ) is a first rate engine mechanic with a love for Italian cars, and especially Fiats. So, if you're looking to rebuild your motor, or redo your head (oversize valves, dual springs...whatever) then he's an excellent choice.

Ray's in Renton Washington, so a few hours north of you, but he's good. He helped me repair our 1962 Fiat 500D after an engine fire, and I can't say enough good things about him and his wife Laurie. But don't ask him to repair the general stuff, as he's just not interested in that kind of work.

Whats the issue with your car? My friends and I own WAY too many Fiats and do most of our own diagnostic work and all the repair work we have the tools and ability to do. We use shops for alignment work, exhaust work(new mufflers or welding to the system), machine work and there is a shop ive used several times for electrical gremlins i couldnt fix. What color is your car and what part of PDX do you live in?

I know this reply is pretty late, but if you are still looking, I have had great luck with Europa Motors on Division. They've worked on Spiders since they were first sold here and the owner has had a few of them himself over the years and appreciates keeping them on the road.

I second Europa, ~104th and Division.
FDA (Foreign and Domestic Automotive) is a good alternative for routine stuff. They are near SE Division and 10th
