I plan to replace the dual plane intake on my 2000 with an 1800 single plane manifold. I ordered a new 32/36 DFEV Weber carb to install on the intake. I'm now having concerns about the compatibility of a vaccum operated secondary carb on a single plane intake. My real dilema is will the intake provide enough vacumm to open the secondaries?
Anyone care to provide insight on this swap?? I just need to know before i put the new carb on the car. I like the idea of decent gas mileage and electric choke on the DFEV versus the extra performance of a mechanical secondary carb.
Thanks in advance for the input.
Is the 32/36 weber DFEV compatible with 1800 intake???

Plenty of vacuum power there, dragracer.

that carb will work perfectly on your intake/engine

after performing this exact procedure myself, i have coaxed several other guys thru the conversion step-by-step.
to a man, i believe they each will profess extreme satisfaction. hopefully, some of them will chime in here.

Thanks to everyone for their responses.
And thanks to you Mark for getting that intake out to me in a timely manner. I expected at least a 5 day shipping window but received it much sooner. Now if UPS will just get here in the next few minutes with my new carb, i'm going home to begin work on the conversion. Hurricane Hannah will be blowing through here tomorrow so i'm running out of fair weather to make progress on the project.
I appreciate the help from all.

You might run not a few gotcha's you should know about.
First one is the studs may be way long if the 1800 manifold is still set up for its original Weber ADFA. A spacer helps, but I decided to use the spacer and also change the studs to make it easier to get the carb, my fingers, and a tool in there at the same time. I think I got the studs at Advance, NAPA, or O'Reilly. The spacer came from Pierce Manifolds.
You might also see that the throttle connection on this carburetor is different from your original. I used a new 8mm ball stud from Piece Manifolds. The hole in the DFEV throttle lever was too big so I made a spacer to keep the ball stud centered for tightening.
I only had to make a slight adjustment to the linkage to make sure I could go from throttle closed to wide open, but my conversion was done on an 1800 engine with the same cam cover linkage you have. I don't remember what the throttel connection on the '79 carburetor looked like.
I suppose you already know about connecting 12 volts to the electric choke.
It will be nice when you have it together and working....you'll see the difference.

Thanks for the "heads up" on the stud length- will try to order a spacer from Pierce if its necessary to do the installation.
I was aware of the electrical connection required for the choke from reading other posts on this site.
I was told i could use the linkage off my ADAH on the DFEV- does anyone have info on this to share????
Looking forward to getting the manifold and carb on the car. The car restoration project has stalled due to problems i've experienced recently with the stock carb. I'd like to have all of the mechanical work done before its starts to get cold so i can enjoy the car a bit before the winter months kick in. I plan to begin the body work over the winter time.
Re: Is the 32/36 weber DFEV compatible with 1800 intake???
the 32/36 comes with a square "u" shaped piece of linkage that is impossible to use, but can be modified if you have the patience. send me a PM with your email address; i may have some pictures for you.
or, it is easier to just order the correct replacement linkage from pierce manifolds.

Yeah, Mike's right. I suppose I should have described it like he did. That's the reason I bought the 8mm ball stud. I was able to mount it in the hole in the "U" shaped throttle arm and just hook up the stock linkage.
My application was an 1800 in a '78 spider, so i already had the cam mounted throttle arrangement.

I am thinking about getting rid of my ADFA for the DFEV so I called Pierce Manifolds to see about getting a spacer and the correct linkage. I told the guy what I was planning to do and he said that neither the spacer nor the linkage was available. Can some one tell me specifically what to ask for?

Call webercarbsdirect.com they'll have everything you need. You shouldn't have to do much to the linkage if you ran an ADFA beforehand, at least I don't recall needing much.apexwc wrote:I am thinking about getting rid of my ADFA for the DFEV so I called Pierce Manifolds to see about getting a spacer and the correct linkage. On your point about vacuum, DFEV is mechanical, no vacuum except for the distributor and that is built into the carb.
