Hi everyone. Been a lurker here for a little while and have been searching for a car for about 4 ys. Found a great one today! I am as excited as I get. '78 124, 5 spd w 47k miles. Was an Alabama car, handed down to a former Volvo tech in 2005, who did a bunch of work to it since and has driven it only 2k miles.
Was great to find pertinent info here on what to look for and my new toy passed with flying colors. Man do these cars pull or what! I was pleasantly surprised at the power and esp that growl when secondary is open. Underside is basically rust free - still has what appears to me to be factory undercoating on unibody and no scale on cross member or suspension components. Looks to be orig white paint except for right fender that appears to have been damaged and repaired poss in 80's or 90's as paint has crazed and cracked around repair aft of front wheel. Couple small rust bubbles on L&R rear corners of trunk lid. Gave me the (heavy) bumpers and a lot of other parts. AFTER making the deal he surprised me w a set of Al wheels freshly powder coated. Hoping it can be shipped this coming week
VERY happy camper here and sure to have some questions for you all.

Thanks,
Up early today to clean out garage! The only thing that has put a slight damper on my excitement is that it's 33'F here right now. I know we'll get some more warm days before the real cold sets in though. Last week it temp hit 86 and humid...

If you think your '78 has great pull it must already be desmogged! Good news! Maybe even an updated carb. I have a '77 and when I got it I was uncomfortable in todays traffic - I couldn't easily keep up. Addition of a 4-2-1 manifold and mostly a 34 ADF carb solved that problem!

Oh yes it has been De-smogged. Plugs in manifold. After market air cleaner - small rectangular. Carb I think OE as is coolant activated choke. Elec. fuel pump.
Today cleaning out the garage I had a vision for this car. It's white so, red int., white top, red boot, red rally stripes - Like cobra or GM SS, stripe all the way down to, and including an aftermarket front spoiler and down rear valence area.
