I recently got what I thought was a single plane 1800 intake manifold to replace the dual plane one on my 2 liter. I am starting to wonder if I actually have the right manifold or not. I have found all kinds of advice for blocking off the exhaust port that fed the EGR on the 2000 but I'm still left with an open water passage that is between said port and the end of the manifold. Any thoughts?

Re: Did I miss something?
I can't see whatcher talking about. maybe you could turn the light on over there? would help me see your pictures better.
the 1800 intake manifold has water passages, and several vacuum ports. I think...every 1800 intake has some sort of EGR port as well (but I may be wrong on that specific point). Quite probably yours does have an EGR port.
then again, exactly what carb you intend to use, and if you are stripping other emission equipment from the vehicle might be of use to most of us as well.

Re: Did I miss something?
Sorry, I didn't make myself too clear.
On the 2000 head when looking at the intake side there is a port that feeds exhaust gas thru the head and into the intake manifold, I think it is for the EGR system. This is on the far left end. Moving to the right, next to this is a water passage and next to this is the intake port for cylinder #1. As far as I have been able learn this exhaust port is only on the 2000 engine. Everything I have found about replaceing the original manifold with an 1800 manifold says to be sure and block this port off. No problem there. Where I'm having trouble is with the water passage. The new mainfold I have doesn't cover it and I can't seem to block it off entirely. Sorry I don't have any pictures right now. I'll try and post some tonight if need be.

Re: Did I miss something?
alright. that makes the question clearer. however i cannot tell what you have in your hand until i see it.
the 1800 intake is a perfect match for the carbureted 2000 head EXCEPT for that exhaust gas port. the coolant passages and the cylinder intakes will match up just fine, as will the mounting bolts.
if yours does not match up, i suggest you:
a) are not looking at an 1800 intake
b) are not looking at a stock 2 litre head.

Re: Did I miss something?
i don't remember there being a coolant passage between the egr and the cyl1 "port". I'm wondering about your head (well, the car's, not yours)
Re: Did I miss something?
Just to try and clear things up here are a couple of pictures.
and as for the head part number
and the finally the manifold
According to Brad Artigue's excellent manual that head is listed as a 1979 Brava. Don't know about the manifold.

Re: Did I miss something?
are you calling that crecent shaped indentation in the head to the right of the EGR port a water passage?
i just looked at the two liter head in my backyard. that crecent shaped indentation is just that...an indentation. it is NOT, repeat NOT a coolant passage, or any other passageway. it is perfectly alright to leave that crecent shaped indentation exposed.
now, if you are referring to the round port .. that is the EXHAUST GAS port. you will want to stop the exhaust gases from coming to this side of the head.

Re: Did I miss something?
Mike, you are absolutely correct.
After looking at my own pictures I can see that there's nothing there. I thought it looked awfully clean. And I knew the exhaust port was there. So now I need to figure out where the water is coming from. It sure looked like it was coming from there.
Told you I missed something.

Re: Did I miss something?
did you use anything on your gasket, like a sealer of any kind?
also, are you positive you got all the old sealer and old gasket off the head?

Re: Did I miss something?
I was hoping that I would have to remove the manifold but it looks like I'll be doing that this weekend.
Normally I try not to use any gasket sealer if I can help it. What you see in the pics is only in that area trying to stop the leak that I thought was there.
Thanks,
Joel
