Car lift for home garage

Has anyone found a good quality car lift that will work well in a home garage? I have a 10 foot ceiling, but even lifting the car 4 feet, with good under carriage access would be good. I'd like to keep the price under $2,000.

Just be VERY careful. Not only over-rated, but suffers terrible Chinese welding quality.

First off let me start by saying I don't know anything about the brand that failed in the video linked above. I do however own the MaxJax linked in the prior post in reply to the OP and have used it for 3 years with no issues beyond a slight leak at one of the fittings that oozes fluid when not in use. I've lifted a full size Chevy truck with no worries and my spider has spent a lot of quality time on it of course. The video with the failure is not only a different brand and style but was uploaded by a company that competes with other 2-post asymmetric lift manufacturers. While it is true that a lift of this type requires proper balance, preventative maintenance, professional installation in sound concrete and regular inspections, any machine you risk life and limb using should be respected similarly. For an extra level of safety one can always use tall jackstands to support vehicle once lifted. Over-rated perhaps, but for ~$2k it lifts 48" and fits in my normal garage and I avoid laying on the floor and at my age that is worth a lot. Only downside is friends and family now have me doing all their oil changes, brake and suspension work!

Yeah, no arguments intended, just wanted people to be aware that the international standard for these lifts is that they handle 150% of rating, and to be careful of Chinese weld quality. There is a lot of junk out there, in many markets.

Fortunately the Spider is a light car!

No argument from me about the importance of weld quality. And this is just my limited experience with this one lift. It is rated at 6.5k lb and I refuse to go over 4.5k and am happy with that limit and margin of safety it provides. If I wanted to lift 10k, I'd buy a 15k lift (and build a bigger garage).
