Hello,
I have a 77 fiat 124 with a 2.0 carburetor type engine in it. The car seems to fall on its face until the rpms go up a bit. Then it smooths out a bit and revs up to 4500 well. After that it starts to fall off again and almost sputter. I feel like the distributor may be the incorrect one for the car. Its a points type distributor that appears to be stock with only mechanical weight advance. Is this the correct type distributor for this set up. I often wonder if its supposed to have a vacuum advance type distributor in it.

My 77 has a mechanical advance, points type dizzy as well. It's probably correct.

While the 77 model year with a 1756 engine did come with a dual point distributor using points and condensors; the 2 liter engines had an electronic distributor with a vacuum advance capsule. Using the vacuum advance will be dependent on whether your current carb has a vacuum port for it or not.
