Hello All,
My Name is Colin, I recently purchased a 1979 Fiat Spider for my wife, my plan is to do a partial restore as it is in decent shape with very little rust, only had to weld in a few patches in the floor and do some much needed interior and suspension work. In the last month I have done more shopping at Vick's than I can believe from new A arms to carpets, door panels, badges, tie rods, the list goes on but having fun doing it! I rebuilt a 1968 Datsun Roadster a few years back and really missed the trouble shooting and challenges that a restore brings. I do not miss the rust! Thankfully I found a solid body with decent paint but in need of some mechanical love and some new comforts. Thank you for allowing me to join your group and I look forward to your knowledge and advice as I am new to Spiders.

Hi Colin,
I too have a 79. Am in north van, maybe we should wait for a non rainy day and meet for coffee somewhere?
I was just looking a bit and I think the following people are in the Vancouver area:
ital, vancity16, narfire, bellamachina604, you and I for a total of 6
in Victoria or on the island there is northerotter, davidbruce, burgandy81 (maybe) and vicspider.
so not very many from the forum, but welcome anyways, it is a great place for information.
cheers

Welcome, Colin. Lots of help available on the Forum - just have to ask. I suspect Dinghyguy will be a great resource as he's done quite a bit of work on his car. I too am on the Island - Courtenay. JimB is in Victoria with his Volumex. Narfire (Chris) is actually in Naramata - he's a volunteer fireman - hence the tag.
There's an annual Italian/French car event on Fathers Day in Esplanade Park in North Van. Chris and I attended a few years ago and might be encouraged to do so again if the weather is OK and there's enough of us to make a quorum. Last time Chris and I were there we were kind of intimidated by all the Ferraris and Lambos!

Count me in Bruce. I grew up in North van. Any excuse for a road trip. Might even have the '80 finished by then.

Welcome!
I just joined up myself from Victoria, BC. From the local classified ads, it looks like there are a few decent used parts around Vancouver that should make your restoration a little easier.

Thanks Guys! Thanks for the Welcome
I have been pretty busy on the car, new a arms, tierods, shocks, brakes, rotors, door panels.carpets, found a single plane intake to swap out the dual plane, looking for a 32 adf or 34 adf , preferably the 34? welded in a couple of floor panel patches and POR 15'd the trunk and floors, installed sound deading mat, top was white/ boot cover was blue so I have tried dying it with SEM satin black looks good but will have to see if they stand up which I am unsure even though I did all the proper prep work.
I am in for the meet a few more things to do before it gets on the road but it is coming along will post some picks soon

A few images of some of the progress, a arms, shocks, brakes, heater core , carpets, door panels, 1800 intake and new dfev carb made some wood trim pieces for console being worked on and some other items but making headway.

Looks pretty clean Colin. What's your take on the killmat? Quieter? Cooler on the legs?

Hey!
I really like the Kilmat, it is much quieter and pretty easy to work with. I did use a jute over it aswell, it's 5/16's thick so together it is pretty close to the original thickness but much quieter. I managed to get the jute from kms tools, it's foil on both sides and pretty inexpensive. Still working on a few things had it out for a drive a few days ago and found a leak from the rear brake compensator but should have that done in a few days just waiting for a few parts. Looking forward to meeting up with the local guys soon now that the weather is finally here!!

Thanks for that Colin. Not quite to the interior work yet but some sound deadener was on my radar.
