Window crank grommet

Post by rodo »

I'm trying to re-card my door panels. Anyone have any luck removing the metal grommet that permits the window crank to go through the panel? Or replacing them with aftermarket?

A picture of what you are trying to replace might help. Not sure I understand what specific part but have taken apart the door and cranks several times.

I think grommet is the right word but it is more like a giant rivet. The window crank handle attaches to a shaft; that shaft is situated in the middle of this chrome grommet. Because the piece is pressed in it is attached/crimped on the vinyl front but also to the board back. I think I should be able to somehow take it apart...somehow.

And I got it. Wetminkey helped. Thin blade on the inside, work the edge up and then do that around the whole edge. Pop. Like a charm.
