Has me thinking of a new gas tank and a pre filter. The fuel pump is really loud, I read on this forum that they can be really quiet??

The pump grows louder as it has to work harder. The most common reason is a partially blocked fuel filter.

I should try that first, Replacing the filter. I do not know the condition of the tank.

There are rubber insulator pads that should absorb the pump vibration, along with the rubber piece around the pump itself. Good chance things are lose down there, cause it to sound worse. Probably best to replace pump and install pre-filter for good measure. I replaced the old bosch pump a Walbro high flow pump that was provided with the car when purchased.

Yep, I did the pump, filter and mounting pads all at the same time. Just as loud, lolol. But the good news is that I have a known working spare pump now!

Hmmm, good question, Tim. I bought the AR pump, which I think was Bosch but would have to go check, but I don't know who made the filter. 2 years ago, I think, no problems, other than, being an idiot, I had the 2 wires to the pump switched backwards for awhile, and it wouldn't prime, of course.

I put a pre filter before my pump because of rust in the tank I could tell when it was getting plugged starved for fuel. I would remove it run gas backward through it till it ran clear you would not believe the rust that came out. I bought a second one and would switch them out. I got the filter form NAPA 3299 it was for a motor home but had the correct in and out size. I was having other problems so I bought a new tank this year but put a new regular filter and new pre filter back in. Good luck.

Getting closer to having this one on the road, Brake work. To install pre filter do i need to depressurize or just clamp the rubber line, clamp cut and install?
