Where to place jackstands ?

Post by jagonza »

ok i know where the jack points are under the rocker panels, but if i use it for the jack, where do i put the jackstands ??

maybe the axle ends near the wheels ?? i dont want to bend anything by placing them in the wrong place, looking to jack stand all four corners so i can work on the tranny

Under the front cross member and under the rear axle - be careful of the brake lines back there.

I jack up the front under the cross member and put the jack stands under the rocker panel points. The advantage of that is you are not tipping the car so you can get both front jack stands under it at the same time. Just be careful to stay clear of the oil pan.

The back I jack up at the differential (I have a hockey puck with a hole to keep the filler plug from getting squashed) and put the jack stands under the axle. Again - jacking in the center means both jack stands can be placed at the same time.

If you're using the Fiat jack to jack it up I would go out and get a floor jack. It's not that expensive and a lot safer.

I generally leave the floor jack under the cross member holding no weight so if one of the jack stands let's go it will help support the car.

+1, and I might add that if you go to HF like a lot of us do to get a jack, you need their LOW PROFILE jack to easily get under the front. The clearance, depending upon the particular car, is pretty small, especially with a front air dam.
