Clutch Cable Broke

Post by DieselSpider »

Just had to replace the clutch cable on the Diesel Spider. Thankfully O'Reillly had it in stock and sold it to me for a very reasonable $17.

Root cause of the failure was the previous person who replaced it did not install the cable correctly in the clutch pedal since the slot where the cables shank and barrel end passes through its fingers was not wide enough for it to fit so they just wedged it in until it stuck however the extra stress on the end of the cable snapped it off. Had to start in gear and power shift to limp home in busy city traffic. A few strokes with a file to adjust the slot to fit and the new cable now seats correctly and it works smoother than ever plus there is a lot more adjustment left now too.

They also had left the nut on the common shaft that the brake and clutch pedal pivot on only finger tight and now that it's tightened correctly the brakes operate much better too.
