coating brake lines

Just installing steel brake lines, Should I paint, Rubber coat them or just leave them be?

Leave them be. Coating will usually do more harm than good and may prevent you from seeing the visual cues that attention is required.

If I was to coat brake lines, and given what I have seen happen to them, I would use Fluid Film. It’s lanolin based, flows well and can be removed for inspection.

I absolutely would not use a material that became rigid or wouldn’t flow over the part. IE body schutz or similar.

Wax Oil/Oyl would probably be another product which is also used to prevent rust. Some tend to attract dirt and are intended for cavities inside the uni-body members that can't be easily worked on so they can also be called Cavity Wax Oil or Wool Wax.

Cosmoline is another name to look for and is probably closer to what would be put on the brake lines in a very thin film during manufacture.
