Re: 1608 Wrist Pin Retainer Failure
No need to quit Charlie, I could see your pictures just fine by clicking on the link in a new browser window. At any rate, I see what you mean about damage, and it looks to me like the wrist pin floated free and ran up and down on the inside of the cylinder.
At this point, I would just take the block to a good machine shop and have them inspect it and give their recommendations. It may be that you need a new block, but then again, some machine shops are pretty darn good at fixing all sorts of mayhem.
Good luck!

Yo, abarth4! I can see all four of your pics on imgur if I right click your link and open in a new tab. Sorry to see the damage.
After you load you pic onto imgur, you'll need to open the photo and click on the "copy" tab by 'BBCode'. Then you can simply paste anywhere within your post.
Now you can go back and copy/paste your four torn-up engine pics and post them here,...
Give it a rest for a bit and come back to it,...I've gotten pissed and quit a couple of times over the years. Felt motivated a day, or two, later,...
Todd.

In IMGUR, You click on the picture that you want to post. It comes up by itself in IMGUR to almost full screen. Over to the right, still in IMGUR, there are a bunch of command buttons. You MUST click the DIRECT LINK, not the BBC CODE, and you MUST then copy and paste it inside the "IMG" button here on the forum.
When you write a post here, stop somewhere and click the IMG button. It is the 9th button in from the left above.
Doing this will place into the post.
COPY and PASTE the DIRECT LINK from the IMGUR picture in between the ] X [
Right where I have put the X. Directly in the middle.
I can see your pictures as well. Easy once you get it.

Gosh, that's a lot more trouble than I'm going to,...no wonder you guys are having trouble with posting pics!
Once you've opened your pic to the smaller screen, states right on the tabs that BB Code is for "message boards and forums". Try it, you'll like it,...

I've got another engine, thanks. It's in the car and running now
I think I've finally figured out the picture thing. Here are the photos after the original one went "kablammo" due to a wrist pin retainer failure.

Re: 1608 Wrist Pin Retainer Failure
Ouch!
Why does it look like there is still a circ clip in the piston? Am I seeing things? Could it be that there were two and one is still in?
After installing the clips, one is supposed to drive the pin with a mallet against the clip to drive it into the groove. The pin has a slightly tapered end.

Re: 1608 Wrist Pin Retainer Failure
A piece broke off the circlip and did all its work. It doesn't take much. The smooth hammered out area around the wrist pin is a trademark of a piece of the circlip floating around and beating against the wrist pin bore. I used to do failure analysis on engines when I worked @ CAT and have seen this type of failure many, many times. In my case it floated around long enough where it ate out the cylinder wall and eventually aligned itself where it was able to hammer a path up past the rings. Once the piece was in the combustion chamber it danced between the head and the piston crown and eventually made it's way out the exhaust. You can see perfect little impressions in the cylinder head and piston of the offending piece. A tiny little piece, probably 4-5 mm long took out the head, piston and block! Sorta' like dropping a piece of a spark plug insulator into the combustion chamber... Ceramic is about the hardest thing in an engine and it'll trash the engine (and turbocharger if so equipped...) like you wouldn't believe!
