Replacement alternator

Post by NickL »

Hi, i am trying to find a replacement alternator (in the UK) for my 79 US import. It doesn’t have the original one on it so i cant reference the part number. (Weirdly the one on it is twisted and is making the bracket rub on the timing belt)! Can someone advise me if there is a particular replacement or does someone have the original part number? Thanks v much. Nick

I think the Fiat Part number for the original alternator is 5960292 and that it was a Bosch 55 amp alternator. The Bosch 65 amp alternator would be a bolt on replacement part number 5992154

I am not a parts person so I might not be correct.

I think you should repost your needs in the "parts wanted" section of this site

Fair enough, Nick, and I was thinking more along the lines of calling them to get an original part number rather than purchasing an alternator from them.

Assuming the bracket is what is bent making it rub on the timing belt; get that sorted.
Is there a shop around there that can rebuild yours?
We have a few of these around and I have heard the pricing isn't bad.
Just an idea

This is only a guess, but it might be the same as a Lancia Beta of that period has?
From memory there are more Beta people in the UK that could potentially help?

The alternator on my 1980 2000 has a Bosch part number 0 120 489 823. There is a symbol and then 824. It says 14v 65a and is mounted on the left side of the engine. I believe the numbers before the symbol will get you what you need. Hope this helps.

Hi Nick. I bought my 80 as a project just after I retired about 4 years ago. I didn't get serious about working on it until about a year ago. It didn't run when i purchased it. Fuel pump was cloged with rust from fuel tank. Total teardown. Lots of bodywork, just finishing the paint now. Engine just got rings and bearings. Bumper less, all new led exterior lights. Custom dash and interior wood. About to start on upholstery and replacing the top. Shooting for end of May completion. Good luck with yours.

I'm not one for documenting the progress. But I will put some up when it's done.
