I tried it like the manual(s) state, but my idle is still several hundred rpms to high.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Awhile ago you posted that your aux. air regulator was "flopping around". Is that issues fixed? It could have caused an air leak in the hose which could be a cause.
Next, go here and look for "engine idles too high"

You may also try disconnecting the wire connector on the cold start valve.

make sure the idle stop screw is not holding the throttle open, then use the air bypass screw to set the idle. Also check the ign timing, if it's advanced the idle will be high. Make sure there aren't any air leaks around the intake boot or vacuum leaks around the manifold

I have fixed the Air regulator problem( As mark pointed out, the covers were on the wrong side, once that was fixed, it was easy to mount the regulator) and replaced all rubber hoses in the engine compartment as they looked in bad shape.
I checked the screw and it doesn't seem to be holding it up. I will check timing tonight when I get home.
BTW - I just finished rebuilding the ignition, fuel and brake system ( still not happy with the brakes though ).
New top is next ( Christmas present )
