Finally got my 4-1 header to seal up - both oil and exhaust gas. And it doesn't hit the steering linkage anymore either. We got the hat trick, folks!
Here's the trick. Take the big ol' clamp off. Leave the downpipe connected at the transmission. Remove your manifold, put a good gob of high temp silicone on the thread of the 2nd fastener from the front. That's where the oil galley is. Bolt the manifold back up and - this is important - actually let the silicone cure for 24 hours.
Next up, loosen the downpipe ever so gently at the transmission. You want it to move, but with some resistance. Now put a jack underneath the part of the downside closest to you underneath the car. Give it a few pumps. Look up top and make sure it aligns with the manifold's donut nicely. The clamp doesn't seal anything at all, it just holds it. Once you're satisfied, bolt the clamp up, tighten the fasteners at the transmission and only then let the jack down.
Take the car for a test drive and listen to this song:

Onkel, you sound exited. What kind of a header is this?
The head studs in the oil bath is a bummer but sounds like you dealt with it.
