Carpet set drawings does anyone has them?

Post by BartekfromPoland »

Hi all,

I wonder if there is anyone who might have blueprints for carpets set to Fiat Spider. I am going to do my own set but unfortunately cannot find 1:1 scale drawings. Anyone can help?

Regards

Don't have any drawings however no matter how ratty the old carpets are you can usually just make your own paper patterns from them.

I may be doing similar with a set of used seats that need re-upholstery so I can make my own set of covers with inserts that are a bit more Florida Friendly than leather or vinyl searing you. When its warm enough to get them to lay flat I will dissect them so I can make patterns of each part.

Bartek, try the following link from an earlier thread on this forum. Some of the links are broken, but you may be able to read enough of the dimensions (in inches, it looks like) from the pictures to get you started. Perhaps cut out a pattern out of an old bedsheet or the like, and then adjust where needed, before you start cutting actual carpet.

Have you found any drawings at all? It would be a simple matter to up-size them with just about any drawing program and do a test fit by printing some samples out to verify you have the dimensions close enough.

I pulled all my carpeting out and have it stored somewhere as I did not like the way the shredded rag padding stayed wet for days unless you pulled it out and hung it to dry after you got caught out in the rain.

I know this isn't what you were asking for but I used brown paper, the kind used as filler or padding during shipping to make sure smaller items packed in larger boxes do not shift in transit, to trace out a pattern. The paper was large enough to lay flat on the floor of the car and trace out the shape I wanted. I found that creating a pattern that was larger than stock helps keep my carpet tucked neatly under my seats, trim and center console. The difficult part was sewing the finished edge on each section. If and when I ever do this again I'll pay a professional to finish the edges. The coverage and fit is better than my stock carpets ever were because I made sure it would be with every piece I cut. It's been a few years now but my only real expense was the cost of the carpet and my time.

Thank you all for great hints. I will try with the brown paper as suggested and share results once done. Also Happy New Year to all Spider owners and their families.
