Ray, what could have happened is that your auxiliary shaft was not timed right, and if that's the case, it can "jam" inside the engine against one of the connecting rods. Sometimes (but not always) this can be fixed.

The simple check for this would be to remove the timing belt and see if you can turn the auxiliary shaft pulley by hand. If not, the scenario above is likely what happened. If the auxiliary shaft pulley turns, try turning both camshaft pulleys just slightly. If they appear jammed, then you have a different problem.

So, before tossing the engine into the scrap pile, it might be worthwhile to see what's actually wrong with it. Of course, if a piston is sticking through the side of the block, different story of course. :(

Bryan has some good advice. Did you attempt to time both cams and the aux shaft per factory manual instruction?

A con rod will hit the fuel pump lobe on the aux shaft if the aux shaft is not timed correctly.

Did your engine turn over at all after the work? If it never ran or turned over, then it's likely salvageable. If the aux shaft contact happens while running, not a good thing.

May help. Pretty much the same sequence and alignment marks for all of the engines.
