The title says it all, I forgot to lock the engine when changing the belt, and it think it slipped a tooth or two.
Right now, when the intake and exhaust are lined up with their respective marks, the timing mark on the crank lines up with the middle timing line.
I'm hoping this is where it's supposed to be, but I think it's causing the valves to be 5 degrees too early.

tdc is the bottom, longer line on the cover.

When I have done this job, I often have to set it more than once to get it right. It's easy to get it a little off. I usually set it, roll the engine around a couple of times the way it rotates when running by hand and recheck it. If it needs to be reset, I do. I also put a timing light on the engine and reset the dist. when I'm done. ...J.D.

You are probably as close as you'll get. If you rotate the belt by one tooth, this represents about 17° of crankshaft rotation, which would be further off in the other direction. The error may be from previous cylinder head or engine work. Has the engine block ever been decked or the cylinder head shaved during a prior engine rebuild?
