I just bought this FIAT engine and I have no info from the seller as to the condition and displacement of this motor.....It turns over freely at the crank and appears to be in okay shape externally....The cylinder head seems cleaner (newer maybe ??) than the block and has a Weber carb.
The photos and the Link below show the markings on the block and Cylinder head. Maybe some of the experts in this Forum can identify the year and displacement of this engine....I think it's a 1970-1974 motor but I'm not certain.....what type of Weber carb is installed??

The number you want is stamped above the oil filter housing, but it looks like a 1608 with 28/36 DHSA to me.

Great! Thanks for the tip....
The numbers above the oil filter housing:
Is there a number stamped on the Weber carburetor and where can I find it??
Thanks for your expertise......Bill K.

if its a weber, there should be a model number stamped on the outside... of course, it is the side that faces the cam box. I've used a mirror and a flashlight before to read the model number.

The way your picture is, look at the base of the carb on the bottom part of the page.

Re: Help indentifying a FIAT engine
Okay thanks for the info on identifying this engine as a 1608cc ....
I can't seem to find any numbers stamped on the Weber carburetor itself (around the base).....Oh well, no big deal for now - I probably need to clean the gunk around the base first anyway.
Will this 1608cc motor work on a 1980 FI 2.0L Spider?? The motor on my Spider appears to be seized up so I was thinking of replacing it with another engine....Has anyone here done this sort of project??
How difficult of a task is for the DIU weekend mechanic with average skills to swap engines?? I guess I need to buy an engine lift sooner than I thought.
Thanks for your time - Bill K.
