What Have you found in your Spider ?
What Have you found in your Spider ?
My Spider was not a big restoratrion project so I only found a 1983 dime when changing out my console cap. I figure it was lost down in the cracks just after it was bought new beings it was a 1983 dime and not a newer one.
But,,I bet some of you have some interesting stories to tell of what you have found in your Spiders either before getting it home or after ,,,so,,,,lets hear them and maybe have a laugh or two.. LD

Re: What Have you found in your Spider ?
This stuff was discovered after I got the car home as I didn't have a key for the trunk. I'll start with the junk then move to the good stuff.
First off there was a lot of junk. Pamplets for early 90's computer networks along with a few computer network parts. There was a sweater, some REALLY ugly womens pants, Cadilac floor mat an animl print blanket and a bunch of other stuff I dont emember. Now for some of the good stuff. Bayless catalog, a little outdated but still cool. Receipts from bayless a Haynes shop manual and my missing Panasprot center cap. Now for the really cool stuff. Original Fiat rubber trunk mat, original spare, original jack and my favorite, the factory tool box with tools.
The glove box had the original wiring diagram, Fiat safe motoring hints booklet, original warranty book and the owners manual with key codes. This was a HUGE bonus as the car didn't come with keys.

This is how mine (SPYDUH) arrived Down Under from California Complete with a change of clothing
But, perhaps the most surprising items found amongst the refuse were dozens of live bullets and used cartridges, everything from .22 to shot gun ammo.

Besides the usual loose change found under the carpets, I also discovered a guitar pick and an ice pick! Do all Texans carry these things under the rear seat?

Re: What Have you found in your Spider ?
I found a really nice center punch inside the chassis in the trunk. Its old, and for some reason it appears to me to have a european type style. I would like to imagine it was accidentally left in there at the factory. I can picture some worker laying it on the car as it was being made, and it rolling away, and falling into that crevice, and later picturing him scratching his head wondering where in the heck did my punch go:)

I discovered an Italian candy bar wrapper under the seat of my new 131 when removed to install rear speakers.

I found a wallet in my trunk with an ID in it for some guy named James Hoffa. When I showed it to an Italian friend of mine from New York that I'll call "Vinny" he took it from me for safe keeping and gave me a $100 bucks to buy my wife something pretty. What a nice guy.

Re: What Have you found in your Spider ?
I got my Spider from a strange guy in Peachtree City GA - he sold me the following stuff, wrapped with a Fiat Spider:
- around 200 newspapers, interesting ads marked - I wasn''t able to see the rear bench...actually it was filled up to the rear windows
- a small collection of Calvin&Hobbes booklets
- a cassette in a broken player with psychedelic music I wasn't able to identify
- around 50 white pills made of unknown substances in the trunk
- broken and new fuses all over the place
- cow dung with straw behind the front seats (sic!) and in the trunk
- murrican and mexican money (around 30 coins altogether)
- the service booklet
- several speeding tickets
was a rather ugly job to clean that up....
ciao,
Stefan

Re: What Have you found in your Spider ?
When restoring my son's car (Arizona car), stashed between the map pocket (driver side) and the car speaker hole was a bag of dried up marihuana, and several rolled joints, they must have been really old because the bag and the rolled joints crumbled as I removed them! Could you imagine the excitement and trouble my son would have been had he driven the car to school on a random drug search day?
Also found lots of qaurters and dimes under the old carpet along with earings, clips, and old rusted screws.

Re: What Have you found in your Spider ?
Your question should be "what have you lost in a Spider?" It's a law that any nut, bolt or screw you manage to take off in the engine compartment will fall into the holes at the motor mounts. If you try to remove the little boot hooks on the rear cowl, be ready to lose your socket as well as the little nuts that keep the hook in place. They will fall into that big crevice in the trunk.

Three blind mice???? While I was loading a 77 parts car onto my trailer, I went to put something into the trunk and had 3 mice looking back.

Their eyes were glassed over by the excitement of sitting in a Fiat thus giving the impression of being blind.

Okay,, heres one for you Denice .. Lots of years ago I had a 39 chevy and my girl friend lost her pocket purse while out with me and she thought I stole it ,,later she told me that she thought about it and only could figure that "yes" he stole it..mdrburchette wrote:Your question should be "what have you lost in a Spider?" she knew she lost it while riding in my car and when she went to get out ,,it was gone and we had not stopped anywhere except at the place we meant to stop at.. we did date after that and the issue was dropped and she went her way and I went mine ,,then about a year later I was working on my passenger side inside door handle and noticed a small slit in the cloth that covered the door .. for some reason stuck my hand down into the slit and to the door bottom ,,,and yep! you guessed it ,,there was her purse.. Re: What Have you found in your Spider ?
Not Fiat related, but funny nevertheless.
Several years ago, a mechanic friend of mine had a VW beetle in for a service. This car had had numerous owners.
The current owners were complaining of a sporadic distasteful odour coming from the cars interior, especially when it was hot.
Well after days of perservierence and patience, it was discovered the smell was coming from the hood lining, when they removed it there in all its glory was something that may have been a sandwich at some time!
Yes folks, Fritz - the assembly line worker - probably stuffed it in there back home in Germany!!
Urban myth, who knows. (Hey, there's one for Mythbusters..............! )
