My sons 1974 Spider will just quit on him while in gear and driving . He only loses power to engine and not lights OR sterio and other lightings..
His battery is good ,,his battery cables are good ,,his fuses are good ,,his wires to the plugs are good .... He can start it either by compression with the clutch while rolling or turning the key off and restarting it and it will go awhile and then quit . Mile or two in between or some times more than that before it quits.. Ignition maybe ??
Here are before and after pictures from when we buffed it out a couple weeks ago .. Oxidized pretty bad.. LD

Re: Motor Stalls While Driving
first, I'm impressed that buffing it changed the color from orange to red. Secondly, start with the basics; set the point gap, change the fuel filter, make sure there aren't any fuel leaks on either side of the pump
Re: Motor Stalls While Driving
My wife said the same thing and thought i was showing another car ,,she seen us doing it but what I think is it was the lighting when I took the orange picture .. Heres one at my place just before the buffing and it does not show up so orange .. I will tell him what you said and go from there ,,thx Mark LD
Heres a before and after picture from the same location ..

LD, have you guys checked for good contacts at the coil and lead wires to the dist.?
How do the wires at the back of the ignition look? Any evidence of poor conductivity at the connector there?

Re: Motor Stalls While Driving
I had the same problem in my 1980 FI Spider. It was stalling randomly, especially when braking. Turned out to be a frayed ignition pickup wire. Fixed that and no more stalling!
Cheap fixes are the best!

Re: Motor Stalls While Driving
I've found if you look at the tach while this happens and it just stops registering, it's usually an ignition problem. If it continues to show rpm it's a fuel problem. The wire coming from the ignition pickup at the distributor can be broken inside the insulation causing an intermittent problem or you may have gunk in the fuel line.
