Hi guys, we just got back from a 500 mile trip in the '82. Drove up the coast up hwy 1 and to the wine country, saw some whales & had a nice drive. The car ran great, with one exception. Occasionally, usually when going up hill and maybe lugging it a little bit, the car would jerk only once. I can best describe it like you turned the key off and on as fast as possible. It was just enough to make us a bit nervous. I can't really think of what would cause this particular problem, any ideas? thanks

sticky flap in the afm or a lean condition?

Trey, did this happen as you were changing the throttle position, or cruising with it in static position?

It was at a steady speed, but since it was usually uphill there was probably an increase in throttle. I just can't figure out why it would only happen once at a time. Maybe it's just sticking for a split second? I'll have to take a look at it.

That happened to a friend of mine, he decided it was the fuel. Maybe some water or debris in the bottom of the tank.

The AFM flap has very close tolerance. It takes very little gunk to build up in the chamber to snag it at some point in it's travel. I was embarrased last year when my car was behaving the same as yours. I had pushed the flap as far as I could with my finger after Mark suggested the flap. It moved freely, but the car would still hesitate occasionally. Finally, I took the AFM off and found gunk build up just beyond where I had been able to push it. After cleaning it and adding some dry silicone lube, it was an instant fix.
Knowing you, I'd guess you've already looked at it, but if not, it should be a regular maintenance item for us FI owners.

It was sticking when I got the car & had a bad hesitation. After about 3 hours with a paint stirrer wrapped in sandpaper I got it working freely, but I'll check it tonight. Thanks
