I am wondering if this is worth the 50.00 he is asking and if it will be of help owning a Spider. I am not a mechanic but I am mechanically inclined and like to tinker.

Sears Auto Analyzer and Inductive Timing light
Here's an old school analog diagnostic analyzer for automotive electrical system components (alternator, battery, etc). Its old but is new in box and has never been used. Comes with all leads and in original case with instruction manual. The timing gun is also new in box and has never been used.
Is this worth buying?

You can still buy both from Sears for $85 with a manufacturer's warranty.
The timing light is $50 and the analog analyzer is $35.

Thanks Denise. I always thought they were much more expensive. I'll check it out.

If it can test and induce a load on the alternator then it beats trying to limp down to the local parts store with a faulty alternator to have them test it. Just the timing light is worth the price.
Tell him about the new stuff like Denise said and try to talk him down to $40 or $35. Besides anything bought at Sears with a Sears or Craftsman name on it has a lifetime warranty, and you don't need the receipt.

Re: Is this worth buying?
i haven't checked lately, but i was under the impression that the Craftsman lifetime warranty applied only to hand tools, and not electrical appliances or tools. And decidedly, not everything bought at Sears has that same warranty. that is why they have the "other" brand of tools at the same counters. What is that name... Companion? I dunn think they carry the warranty.
I prefer Craftsman hand tools for the no questions asked warranty, the availability, the quality, and the MADE IN AMERICA..by Americans contributing to the American economy.

Mike is right, hand tools only. Even my "clicker" torque wrench does not have a lifetime warranty.

I have a Craftsman "clicker" torque wrench too. I bought it about 20 years ago and I took it in recently to see if they could send it off to be calibrated. They couldn't and after looking at the box it only came with a 90 day warranty and so did all of the new ones. The really cheap pointer style torque wrenches do come with a lifetime warranty so I bought one of those. What a POS! I could torque a bolt to 100ftlbs and it would still read only 15. At least they took it back. Anyone know of a service that will calibrate?

I found this place:
http://www.teamtorque.com/, but I also saw them on sale for half price awhile back. It might be cheaper to buy a new one, although it might only last 90 days! I found this link on checking calibration, but it looks like a p.i.t.a. http://www.stockcarracing.com/howto/scr ... sults.html
