A good laugh for our more northerly friends

Post by 4babycar »

Thought you might get a good kick out of this...... All of the local city and county schools are closed tomorrow because of the inclimate weather, being that it is too COLD! Yep, that is it, no snow, sleet, ice, etc, just cold. IMHO, not even that cold only 10 degrees and light winds around 5-10mph. I thought those of you use to cold, windy and wintry weather would find great amusement in the intolerance of some people to a bit of chilly weather.
Thanks for your thoughts and concerns in our time of extreme chill, here in central Virginia.

Hey we had a spell of that here a week or so ago(-23 deg C). Still a whole lot of whinning going on because of the inversion we are experiencing. we are at 1100 feet above sea level and its about -1 deg cel (30 deg f) went sking at 6500' and was about 5 deg cel(maybe 40 deg F) the valley fogs in and no flights ect. Nothing in the news theres always the weather.
The coast goes into a huge tizzy when there is an inch or two of snow. Great news highlights watching the cars try and drive while aiming the wrong direction.

Narfire. Where do you live? We get the inversion here too and I hate it when it happens. Mid 20's in the valley (4200 ft elev) with horrible air polution and mid 40's in the mountains (8,000 ft elev) with clear blue skies. I have never heard of any other place where this happens.

There is a heat wave going on here right now so the weather is unseasonably hot. It has been cooler in August.

I was in Anaheim today, I think it hit 85 there.

So Cal suffers from inversion layers. Pics from our mountains look exactly like that

It's 14 degrees here in NC but they didn't cancel school. I thought Virginians were tougher than us.

:D Yup that was good for a laugh. Here in Saskatoon our average December temp was -25C ( -13F) with the coldest at -41C (-42F). During the coldest days (-25F or so) the kids were'nt allowed out for recess or lunch, that was about it. Windchill is the biggest factor. With my Spider in the heated garage this year I was forced to park the truck outside. On those coldest days the tires were a little square for the first mile or so but all was good after that. Thank God for synthetic tranny and diff fluids. Most people have winter fronts for their vehicles that slow the airflow getting to the rad. If you don't do this during the really cold days then your vehicle has trouble getting warm.

Getting lots of work done on the Spider. Front suspension completely rebuilt, all brakes overhauled, timing belt, idler pulley, waterpump and rad hoses replaced. Rad was removed and sent to a rad shop to get a small leak looked after. He also straightened out all the fins and painted it so it looks almost brand new. Took out the Air filter assy and cleaned/painted all that. Coil assy disassembled and cleaned (even polished the aluminum heat sink). Rad overflow tank removed and cleaned. Windshield washer fluid bottle removed and cleaned.

Next on the list is the interior. I have some rust spots on the floorboards that I have to fix up. The largest hole is about 1/2 inch square so I am going to use the POR15 floorboard repair kit. Most of the rust is from leakage into the passenger compartment from the firewall. When I took the rad overflow tank off, I noticed that the rubber grommet/seal for some of the cables was missing. This seal has now been fixed.

After the interior I am going to check the valve clearances. The top end sounds a bit noisy and has since I picked up the car last August. Before the valve covers come off I think I'll order the Valve shim removal tool just in case I have to measure/order some shims.

Regards to all and back to the garage for me.

You think some one just wanted a day off or two? when I was a kid the roads were more hazardous than now and the bus with chains hardly ever missed picking us up..Some times the kids that lived on roads that were narrow would have to walk for maybe a 1/2 mile to the main roads to catch the bus but the school stayed open for the ones that could make it .

Now days we have Lawyers lined up to sue anyone that they can blame so if some kid falls down and scratches them self the schoold district gets sued so I can understand the risk of having school in foul weather.. but 10 degrees plus is usually just a cold dry day ,,

We occasionally get temperature inversions down here in Perth. It's quite a sight with the tops of the skyscrapers visible only.
