The barter system

Post by ga.spyder »

I stopped by the local alignment shop today,to set up a time to bring in the Fiat.Tony (how appropriate!) was telling me how swamped he is ,and he is trying to help his brother put a metal roof on a storage shed. The bulb  went off.I volunteered to put the roof on with his brother ,in exchange for a free alignment on the car.He hesitated for about 1/2 second before giving me ''Hell Yeah''.Roof was on in a couple hours, car goes in on Thursday. The good news is that all the 82 Fiat specs are in his machine, and he has a bucket full of shims.Gotta Love It!! :D

Hmmmm..... not a bad deal I suppose. We had an interesting offer recently. We are looking to redo the siding on our house and a builder that just purchase our across-the-street neighbor's house (he had to buy it so she could close on the house he built for her) offered to do our siding in exchange for our 80 Fiat (the running/driving parts car I bought)! I know that is just crazy talk for people on the forum but I only paid $400 for her a few months ago and siding estimates for our house are $7k + so it is tempting. I will let you all know if it all happens and one of the requirements of sale/trade will be that they must join and actively participate in this great forum. Not to mention, that we would still be proud owners of babycar, the 81 spider.

Being that I do siding on houses ,I would say DO IT !!! You can always get another parts car,but you wont find another contractor like that! Even if you supply the materials that would be a tremendous deal for you.

Yeah, that is what we thought. My wife says we would also be doing our part to expand the local Fiat community too! Win-Win!

make sure the siding is done before he gets the car. That way, if he gets disillusioned with the parts car your siding is in place

The barter system is a wonderful thing!! I bought my first Spider for a sofa, love-seat and two end tables in 1999. My car that is being painted right now, is costing me a oak king size sleigh bed and Simmons mattress set. In return I have The best guy in this area stripping my spider to the bare metal and putting on a quality paint job. The guy that I have helping me with my engine rebuild, I offered to pay him in cash and he asked me to pay him in furniture! :D Its always nice to know who you are dealing with as I have been burned in the past!

You made a great barter there CraIg .. better hurry before he changes his mind.. If I knew some one close to me that was a good helper putting a new septic drain field in ,, I could make a barter deal like this one also ..as I still have my parts car.. I will be running the back hoe and need a good shovel man and story pole holder to keep the lines level .. He or she needs to be a at least a 3rd year apprentice at hand shovel operating ,,I will supply lunch and gloves.. Oh! and the shovel too. LOL

By the way Craig I will sending you a PM soon as I take some pcitures of the bumper rubbers.. LD

I'll send Krissy (my wife) up to help you LD. I don't know how many septic systems she's helped me put in. Poor girl, the last one we did was in the summer, 105° and she's in the ditch, holding the shovel in the air to spot me for the rock dumps. When we got to the end of the line, she was covered in 1/2" of dust!

thx Ron ,,but for me to dump dirt on your wife just isn't the same as you doing it and I would be a sitting duck on that back hoe with a dirt clod comming at me .. LOl
Another thing is I wish I had some of your high heat rather than snow and rain which is in the forecast because just a little rain up here makes for a muddy mess ..

I am useing the filtration type of drain field so not rock ,,I ahve used this 3 times now and have no feed back because of being to new.. I like the idea though.. LD
