Exhaust Manifold Nuts
I was changing out the Lambda Sensor this afternoon (I think it has been in the car since it was new in 1982. What a PIA)when I noticed that the two front exhaust manifold nuts were just finger tight. I tightened them back up, but I was wondering if this might be a symtom of a different problem? There was no oil leaking around the upper one like I've read here before.
Re: Exhaust Manifold Nuts
a loose nut won't cause the oil leak, the stud has to loosen up.

Exhaust manifold/header fasteners are notorious for coming loose. Do you have lock washers?

They did not have lock washers on them, but they will soon! Thanks.
Re: Exhaust Manifold Nuts
Vick's Autosports sells crimped brass nuts which work very well on the exhaust studs and will not rust or react to the steel manifold studs. No lock washers needed.
