cold start problem

Post by sam »

I have a new problem as of last night, when I try to start the car when its cold it will idle fine for about 10-15 secs then kaput. If I hold a rev on it ~2-3k rpms it will do the same thing however it almost tries to disel for a sec. like it is getting fuel but no spark. As I was leaving work today it did the same thing but I was in a parking lot so I kept it in gear and did a few laps with it dying and dragging on 2nd gear and it would pick back up after a sec or 2 and after about 10 times cutting out it drove off fine. Again, not really like its just not idleing but that it is losing spark, almost like I am just cutting off the ignition.

I have seen a few of these for FI but seems most of the problems and solutions had to do with the FI unit and this is a carbed car also after some tries (took me 30 mins last night) it runs fine.

I think it is electronic ignition but there is the "air gap" for the pickup I haven't messed with it, just looked at it to see it wasnt rubbing. I will check that tomorrow.

if it's electronic you may have frayed wires to the pickup unit. Dieseling will occur if you have the throttle open when the engine shuts off
