Today I quit DR.PEPPER
Today I quit DR.PEPPER
I never knew this AND it caught me off guard, and according to the CDC (Centre's for Disease Control) Obesity is very close to overtaking smoking as the leading cause of death in the United States.
The most common source of sugar in our diets is soft drinks. The average soft drink can is around 10 teaspoons of sugar. This amount of sugar can immobilize the immune system by up to 33%, and around 30 teaspoons will shut it down for an entire day... THIS IS WHAT MADE ME STOP MY THIRST FOR POP.
One study by JAMA suggests that a woman who consumes just one can of soft drink a day is 83% more likely to acquire diabetes then a woman who drinks one a month.
A can of coke has 9 teaspoons of sugar in it.
A can of Pepsi has 9.5 teaspoons of sugar in it.
Mountain Dew has 10.5 teaspoons of sugar in it.
Dr. Pepper has 19 teaspoons of sugar in it.
I got these stats from the University of Cincinnati Biology Department Study. And just wanted to share them with you all.

Everything in moderation. And get plenty of exercise.
Headed out to the donut shop for breakfast.

I thought the leading cause of death in the United States was not breathing.
Pop started out as a 6-8oz bottle. Now its 20, 24, 32 or double big gulp! Just drink a glass of water before you drink some pop.
I heard that some states want to start taxing soda differently than water or juice.
Dr. Pepper is one of my favorites after Faygo.

In North Carolina we already pay a soft drink tax. Only tomato juice and sparkling water is included. It's just an underhanded way of getting more tax dollars and not meant to deter people from drinking the stuff. Heck, most people don't even know about the tax.
LD, it's funny you should mention the sugar in soft drinks. Today, while the kids and I were at the YMCA, they had a "Kids In The Kitchen" session to teach kids how to eat healthier. One of the things they showed was how much sugar was in certain foods. It's amazing how much sugar is in our so called Healthy cereals and drinks!

Some one once told me this::
It starts out by just drinking water instead of that soda you were used to after a meal or during. You will find your thurst for the soda go away after drinking the water. If it don't work just cut down at first.
Re: Today I quit DR.PEPPER
LD,
Steve is right, dont quit...just moderate. Sugar is a simple carb., your body needs sugar for energy. But it takes the extra sugar and converts it to fat. Parents let their kids drink a whole weeks worth of pop in one day. By the way, fruit juices are no better.
Can you really stop drinking Dr. Pepper? I think not!

If you pay some attention to the juice declaration label you will find that some of them use lots of sugars too, sometimes the manufacturer use other types of sweeteners that will give the same effect only thing is that you might not know that if you don’t know what all names on the declaration label means.pope wrote:I thought the leading cause of death in the United States was not breathing.

I think some manufacturers don’t give a shit they just want to sell and make money.

Swede, your right.
We have been using high fructose corn syrup here for about 30 years instead of beet or cane sugar.

I've been aware of this for years and limit my intake to water or beer

Scientists are the leading cause of death in laboratory rats.
Just take the motor out of your Fiat and install pedals and then you can drink and eat whatever you want and still have great legs.

Re: Today I quit DR.PEPPER
That Dr Pepper looks quite tasty! You know I saw this on a morning show about a year ago and I have tried to cut down on my sugar and drink lots of water, I have lost about 15 pounds I think and I really haven't changed anything other than that.
Obesity is rampant here and it's troubling. Knowledge is power. It is interesting that the cheapest foods, like I usually have to eat suchas pasta and rice and such are mostly pure carbs and turned into sugar, then fat...
