Air Filter Question

The one I bought was sold for a VW, I can't remember what. I had to do a little grinding to get it to fit the carb, but I'm running a dhsa, (for a little while). The base is petty thin, with a little clearancing I plan to use the reinforcing plate from the og carb inside of it.

My air cleaner has two hoses that go into the back. One is the crankcase blow-by hose, and the other is a vacuum hose that comes off the carb.

Those of you that have put an a lunchbox style air cleaner - what do you do with these two hoses?

lunch box air breather kits are fairly inexpensive (under $30) if you shop right. they are easily modified for the various weber carburetors that most of us use, however, a simple phone call to the distributor of choice may eliminate any modifications. we too often assume that web-site shopping is the do all end all, forgetting that there are still people behind these sites that process and pack our orders. make use of those 800 numbers gang.

and, if you ask the distributor, he'll prolly have a lunch box with the required additional intake port for the crankcase breather hose.

i have used both http://www.piercemanifolds.com and http://www.webercarbsdirect.com for air breather kits, lunch box style. without a carb spacer, the 2" element fits with room to spare:

although, i am going to experiment with different size spacers this coming spring.

and, has been stated above, the lunchbox is louder than stock, much louder. although, i find it a pleasing "growl" rather than noise.

Dan's Performance Parts sells the following styles in 1 3/4" and 2 1/2" for $14:



The 8085 says it is for WEBER 40-48 IDF & DELLORTO DRLA
The 8809 says it is for WEBER DFV-DFAV-DFEV
The 9025 says it is for WEBER DGV,DGAV,DGEV

I'm going to call them (per Mike Bouse's suggestion) and Weber (who have similar products) to ask if they have something made to fit the 32ADFA, otherwise I'll get the closest approximation and modify it to fit.

I called Weber Direct. They didn't have anything that would fit a 32ADFA and didn't have any suggestions and were pretty rude about it. Then I just went to Dan's. I ordered the 8809 but in the 2 1/2 inch. The total was about $25 I can't wait to get my stock air cleaner out of there! I am sure it will look and sound so much better!

Got it today, modified and installed it in about 2 hours total. I love the look I took it for a quick spin and two of the clips popped off I found them though!

I have an '80 spider 2000 carburated and it seems to be odd as I guess they were moving to F.I. around then. Anyone know if there is a K&N kit for it? There seems to ones up to like '79 and then only for F.I. after that.

PPO, consider your car a 1979. Same parts. 1980 is considered the start of fuel injection.

So, my car is at the body shop for another few weeks and all I can do is peruse catalogs. I was looking at the air filter options, such as the Free Flow Air Cleaner from Vick's or simply putting in a K and N filter. Do I lose or gain anything with the free flow filter? I know it looks cool, better than the stock air cleaner. I'm in New Jersey and registered as a classic so no emissions testing for me.

It's cold, and I'm bored and don't have my car to tinker with. My son's pinewood derby car is a poor replacement for my car, plus the kid wants to work on it himself. I don't know how he expects to win like that.

I noticed your post and wanted to add that I'm selling my old K&N filter (along with all the necessary mounts and brackets.)

I purchased it from IAP a few years ago, and it's been in storage since I swapped the original FI for dual Webers' on my
'80 spider shortly thereafter.

I have some pictures I can email if you're interested.
