Hello to all the members that make this forum so interesting and informative.
Became a member a few days ago to help me start up my spider. Problem was simple: dead battery
Let me just say that I own two fun cars that I now drive.
My first purchase was an Alfa Spider 1991 4 years ago and 2 years ago found
a 1981 Fiat 2000 spider I couldn't let go.
I bought the Fiat for two resons:
- My wife doesn't drive manual, so I found an automatic Fiat spider so she could drive
(This way I also had an excuse to buy a second roadster)
- With the bench in the back I can drive with the kids or the entire family
They are both great and quite different. The Alfa feels like a thrill ride because you're so low
sitting inclined and the drive is stiff and hard. The Fiat on the other hand for me feels like
a cruiser, a little softer on the road, not as agressive as the Alfa;
maybe it's because the transmission is automatic.
I am so happy I bought the Fiat though. The car is pretty simple to tinker on and just like the Alfa
gets peoples' attention and remarks.
I think that owning these cars gets under your skin from day one. It's a bug that never leaves
but it's a great feeling
P.S. If I had more garage space the only other vintage purchase that I would consider because
they are still relatively cheap is a Datsun 240Z. What does everyone think?
Hi to everyone again and happy driving
Chris

Hi Chris. Welcome aboard, and congratulations on you entry into Spiderdom.
I agree with you about the Z. I've always thought that owning one would be fun, but my wife is much too practical. She'll only allow me to own one toy at a time, and there was no question which car it would be. The Spider wins, hands down.
