Cat Converter

Post by GOPAPA »

My son who lives in Simi California just told me that a couple nights ago he had his cat conveter stole from under his 4/4 truck .. he went out to start it to go to work and it was real loud .. He then looked under and found the problem.. clamps laying on cement drive way .. no converter..

question : I heard that the bottom dropped out of the cat converter worth ,,any one know anything about wheather they are worth the same to sell than they were ?

Evidently the thief thinks they are worth $$$$....

I don't know about the rest of the state, but here in the Antelope Valley (Los Angeles county) when you take anything in for scrap you are fingerprinted, they make a copy of your driver's license, and you have to certify where the scrap came from. I haven't heard of any other cats being stolen because all scrap prices have tanked. Maybe someone needed a replacement?

they did change the scrap laws at the first of the year, making it much harder to sell stolen cats. Maybe the thief hadn't stolen any yet this year.

Havn't talked to my son about anymore on the cat ,but for what it's worth i will ask what the muffler guy said about it when putting a new one one . Can't imagine anything ,,but will ask anyway ..

If they are not worth as much forthe stuff inside it ,,then I suspect that it was to put on another truck that the thief had or new of that some one he knows owns...

My friend took his 1986 BMW cat in to the scrapyard last fall and got $435 (about $350 US) for it. We were amazed. I think that even the cheap and small cats are worth a minimum of $30 here.
