Blower Switch....Now with pics
Blower Switch....Now with pics
I have looked through a few manuals and every one has indicated the blower switch is located in the space between the emergency brake lever and the shift boot on the driver's side. There is nothing but wood there on my 79. There is a lever style toggle switch on the left side of the factory radio position. It looks similar to the headlight switch. This switch seems to act like a momentary switch, you toggle up and it resets to the middle position; toggle down and it resets to the middle. The blower doesn't come on at all, makes for cold rides with temps near 0 here in Wisconsin. (Doesn't help that my top is toast )
From what I can tell, the factory switch was a rocker style. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Blower Switch
Depending on what year your car is, it's either black or grey. Three positions with middle being off. Located on the center console between the seats just forward of the E-brake handle.
Re: Blower Switch
That's what I thought, but there is nothing there. I'll double check though, just to be sure. Here's some pics.

the toggle switch is in the spot for the power window switch, and obviously you have a replacement lower console

It does look like you have a console cap on your car. So it's covering the hole for the switch. If you take out your console you'll no doubt find the wires for the switch under it, if you're lucky you'll also find the switch there with them.

You may be able to pop the ashtray out to see the wires for the fan switch.

agreed. you have a glue on cap on your center console. and, the plate the toggle switch is mounted to is a blanking plate for the (at that time) optional electric window switch. there should be another blanking plate on the other side of the radio. So Cal Mark wrote:the toggle switch is in the spot for the power window switch, and obviously you have a replacement lower console
Re: Blower Switch....Now with pics
There is another blanking plate on the otherside. I pulled the ashtray and did not see any wiring. My guess is that the toggle switch has been wired to control the blower motor and that the wires have been pulled back and cut to that point. The only way that I can see to access it is to drop the radio back and pull it out through the radio's hole. This is rather difficult as somebody in the past has installed a cd player into the glovebox. The wires for this other radio are rat nested behind and underneath the existing one.
Do any of you recommend a good manual. For VW's I use Bentley manuals. They are highly technically detailed with full wiring schematics and parts brake downs.

It's usually recommended to get at least a couple manuals. Different ones are better than others depending on the section. I use Brooklands and Clymer. I have also accumulated another manual, downloaded from various sources for specific information. However, for the wiring diagrams, there's only one way to go: http://www.artigue.com/fiat/index.html
Brad Artigue's wiring diagrams are downloadable and can be enlarged, making it much easier to read them. His site also has a maintenance manual that is very helpful.

i am betting you'll need to pull that center console off to find the wiring for the switch.
i use the brooklands manual and the FIAT SHOP MANUAL reproduced and sold by IAP.

The wires should be: red with black dots, blue with black dots, and yellow with black dots(the diagrams say brown, but every car I've seen has a yellow wire). They run from the switch along the trans tunnel to male/female connectors that should be shrouded by a cream colored plactic "clamshell" connector cover. From there they route to the heater fan motor. I think there is also a black ground wire in there somewhere. It attaches via a ring terminal to one of the upper heater box mounting studs on the drivers side.
Re: Blower Switch....Now with pics
Hi guys,
I just wired in a 3-way heater switch but I'm only getting off and high. I have it wired red w/ black dot on DS, blue w/ black dot on middle pin, and yellow w/ black dot on PS. Did I get my orders mixed up? I just finished replacing an aftermarket 2-way switch.
Artigue.com shows the wiring order as blue/yellow/red?
Thanks for the help.

I'm not seeing diagrams for the 74-76 on Artigue's site. Where did you find the one for your car?
