Hello everyone,
Just picked up a 1978 Spider 124 about a week or so ago. It was cheap, and so needs some work (ok, a lot of work) but it's keepin me happy for right now. I have a feeling I'll be on here quite a bit to ask questions on stuff that I can't figure out.

Thanks,
I'm surprised that most of it is there, and there's not more rust on it. The floor panels are pretty bad, but nothing a little sheet metal and welding wont fix.

Welcome to the gang. Good job posting pictures on your introductory posting.
One of the great things on this forum is that it's so popular, when a question is asked, it's usually answered right away. Are you driving your car as you fix it up?
Have fun and good luck with your project.

Am I driving it? No, alas, my mechanic (and father) and I haven't been able to look at anything engine related just yet. I just got a key for the ignition from the locksmith (no keys were included in the sale) and received a driveshaft in the mail. What was included was a vast array of parts, most of which I'll need to get it running. It is, however missing the exhaust system.rlux4 wrote:Welcome to the gang. This was in the trunk, and I also received a spare tranny from the previous owner.
Edit: yes, there were six calipers in the trunk, and two installed on the car. Only two of the remaining look to be decent.

Apparently so. I'm not complaining tho. So far it's better than working on my first car, a 79 mustang, or the Yamaha bikes I've been riding for the last 8 years or so. Course I've only had it a week or so, gimme a little time and I'll be cursing Fiat for putting that doodad in some place where my hands wont fit and you have to stand on your head while whistling the Imperial Death March just to see it.So Cal Mark wrote:so, you bought a Fiat kit car, lol.

Denton! My mother grew up there! She went to Denton High, and then to TWU. North Texas now I think.
Anyway, I'll bet you were raised by some people that met the a member or two of the Wells clan from that part of the world.. lol

TWU is still here.. it coexists with UNT. As far as being raised by people who met a member of the Wells clan, its possible, but not likely, as i just moved here and I was a military brat.
Jim, Thanks for the tip about Vics. I wasn't even aware of their existence. I am aware of a place in Nevada, TX called Shade Tree Enginetrics. One of the owners, Robert Rodgers, gave me some good advice when I was looking at 850 spiders (though I was too stubborn to take it at first, I eventually came around).
Thanks for the welcome, everyone.

Well one things for sure you will have challenges and you will earn alot! There are several members from your area I would suggest getting friendly with fellow owners! I used to live outside of Tulsa for around a year or so... That was more than 10 years ago, so I don't remember much, but if I'm ever headed up that way, I'll drop you a line. We have the same year and engine (though I'm not quite sure what shape mine is in yet), so we might be able to trade notes at some point.TulsaSpider wrote:Hey welcome another person "close" to me LOL well I got verry little here in local company! I live in Fairview near Allen. I have a 1982 124 Spider that is being rebuilt in Nevada as needed to get it back on the street. In 1973-74 I had a 1969. Good luck with your project.
